Use this decimal to fraction calculator for checking your work
To go from a decimal to fraction.
Step 1: Place the decimal over 1
Step 2: Count the numbers to the right of the decimal point to calculate the place value
Step 3. Place the same number of zeros behind 1 that you counted in step 2
Step 4. Multiply the numerator and denominator of the fraction from
step 1. by the step 3. number
Step 5. Reduce the fraction
Example: Convert .25 to a fraction
Step 1 .25/1
Step 2. There are 2 numbers to the right of decimal point therefore the place two zeros behind the 1 which equals 100
Example: Convert .125 to a fraction
Step 1 .125/1
Step 2. There are 3 numbers to the right of the decimal point
Step 3. Place 3 zeros behind 1 which equals 1000
Step 4. .125 x 1000 = 125 ( numerator) 1 x 1000 =1000 (denominator)
125/1000
Step5. Reduce 125/1000 = 1/8
Hi welcome to MooMooMath. Today we are going to talk about going from a fraction to decimal to a percent. You can also check your work using the decimal to fraction calculator found on this page. Let’s take three fourths. I will change that to a decimal which is .75 which is 75 % let’s look at the rules. To go from a fraction to a decimal, take the top number (numerator) and divide it by the bottom number (denominator) the numerator goes inside the division bar and the bottom number (denominator) goes on the outside. To go from decimal to percent we will do a shuffle to the right. Move your decimal two places to the right. To go back from a percent back to fraction use the word percent (per meaning division and cent meaning 100) so know let’s look at some examples. We have three fourths. If I write that as division I will write three on the inside and four on the outside and I will divide. Four will not go into 3 so I add a decimal. Four will go into thirty goes 7 times. 7 times 4 equals is 28 subtract bring down a 2 and a zero so my decimal is .75. Now to go from decimal to percent move the decimal to the right two places. So it becomes 75.00 now I going to start as a decimal. To go from a decimal to a percent I move my decimal two places to the right so that becomes 75 percent. Now to go to a fraction, remember percent which means 75 per which means division over 100. All you need to do now is reduce by 5 so I divide the top and bottom by 5 so that becomes one twentieth. So that is my fraction. Now let’s do one more. So let’s go from percentage to decimal to fraction. Now to move from a percent to a decimal, instead of moving the decimal to the right, move it two places to the left. That would become .45. Remember 45% means 45 per which means to divide and cent means 100 so take 45 over 100. Reduce this fraction down which gives me 9 over 20. So there is my example. Hope this helps.
